BREAKING NEWS: UPDATE REGARDING ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT (RTA)

This is to inform the School of Hygiene – Mbale community and all stakeholders about a road traffic accident that occurred today, Friday, 27th March 2026 at 6:30 AM, at Bulage in Mayuge District.

The accident involved a school team that was traveling to attend the MUEHSA Annual Scientific Conference at Makerere University in Kampala and a sugarcane tractor whose driver fled the scene.

Key Updates

1. The team comprised:

Two teaching staff:

Mr. Wongo Moses (Senior Health Tutor and Head of Department, Public Health Engineering)

Mr. Naita Paul (Health Tutor and Dean of Students)

Mr. Nandala Musa (Driver)

Twelve students (8 males and 4 females)

2. No fatalities have been registered.

3. The victims were evacuated by first responders to Buluba Hospital and Nakavule Hospital in Iganga.

4. Four individuals sustained serious injuries (one staff member, Mr. Wongo, and three students), while the rest, including the driver, sustained minor injuries.

5. All 14 passengers have been accounted for. They are alive and currently in stable condition.

6. Medical teams are conducting additional tests and providing psychosocial support.

7. The school vehicle has been towed to Magamaga Police Station.
